Ingredients

Scale
  • 1½ pounds ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • â…“ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 small onion, finely diced (about ½ cup)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 8 ounces mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 medium onion, sliced
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Instructions

  1. 1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, diced onion, garlic, Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and thyme. Mix gently until just combined.
  2. 2. Form into 4-6 oval patties about ¾-inch thick. Make slight indentation in center of each.
  3. 3. Cook patties in large skillet over medium-high heat for 4-5 minutes per side until browned and cooked through (160°F internal temperature). Remove and keep warm.
  4. 4. Add olive oil and mushrooms to same skillet. Cook 5-6 minutes until mushrooms brown.
  5. 5. Add sliced onion and cook 4-5 minutes until softened.
  6. 6. Sprinkle flour over vegetables, stirring constantly for 1 minute.
  7. 7. Gradually add beef broth while stirring. Add Worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, and thyme.
  8. 8. Return patties to skillet, cover, and simmer 10-15 minutes.
  9. 9. Adjust seasoning and garnish with parsley if desired.

Notes

Store leftovers in refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat gently with splash of broth if needed.
