Description

A hearty, comforting, and easy cabbage beef bake recipe perfect for beginner cooks. Made with simple ingredients and straightforward steps for a delicious weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt, plus more to taste
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper, plus more to taste
  • ½ teaspoon dried thyme
  • ¼ teaspoon dried rosemary (optional)
  • 1 (15-ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 (10.75-ounce) can condensed tomato soup
  • 1 medium head of green cabbage (about 2 pounds), cored and thinly sliced
  • ½ cup beef broth
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. 1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. 2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned; drain excess grease.
  3. 3. Add chopped onion to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute more.
  4. 4. Stir in salt, pepper, thyme, and rosemary (if using).
  5. 5. Pour in undrained diced tomatoes and condensed tomato soup. Stir to combine.
  6. 6. Add thinly sliced cabbage to the skillet and stir into the beef mixture.
  7. 7. Pour in beef broth. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat, cover, and cook for 10-15 minutes, until cabbage begins to wilt.
  8. 8. Pour the mixture into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  9. 9. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese over the top.
  10. 10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until heated through and cheese is melted and bubbly.
  11. 11. Let rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for 15-20 minutes or in the microwave.
