- 1 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Grease a baking dish with butter, ensuring it covers the bottom well.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the dish, arranging them evenly.
- Sprinkle with half of the shredded cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese to build layers.
- Pour the milk evenly over the layered potatoes.
- Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbly.
- Garnish with green onions or herbs if desired, and serve warm.
