Description

Delicious, fluffy French beignets dusted with powdered sugar, perfect for any cozy occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
  3. Gently fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just combined; the batter will be thick and lumpy.
  4. Heat the oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot to about 350°F (175°C).
  5. Using a spoon, drop dollops of batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown on both sides, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  6. Using a slotted spoon, remove the beignets and drain them on paper towels.
  7. Dust with powdered sugar immediately after frying.

Notes

For extra fluffiness, don’t overmix the batter; lumps are your friends. Allow the oil to return to temperature between batches for crispy exterior. You can add flavored sugar for a twist.
