Description

Delicious and quick Savory Ground Beef Hand Pies, perfect for busy weeknights and family gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 small onion (diced)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)
  • 2 carrots (peeled and finely diced, about 1/2 cup)
  • 1 large potato (peeled and finely diced, about 1 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • 1/2 cup peas
  • 2 packages pie crust (4 pie crusts)
  • 1 egg (optional, for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350ºF. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
  2. Melt the butter in a large, deep skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the onions and cook, stirring often, until they start to soften and turn translucent, about 5 minutes.
  4. Stir in the garlic and cook an additional 30 seconds.
  5. Add the ground beef to the skillet and season with salt and pepper. Cook until no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Stir in the carrots and potatoes and cook until just starting to soften, about 3-5 minutes.
  7. Mix in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, and thyme.
  8. Sprinkle in the flour and stir to combine.
  9. Pour in the beef stock. Bring to a boil, then reduce and simmer until thickened, about 5-10 minutes.
  10. Stir in the peas, and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper, if needed.
  11. Using a large biscuit cutter, cut circles from the dough.
  12. Whisk together the egg and 1 tablespoon of water for the egg wash.
  13. Add 1 heaping tablespoon of the filling to the center of a dough circle.
  14. Brush the edges lightly with egg wash, place a second crust on top and seal the edges with a fork.
  15. Cut a slit in the center of each pie and transfer to a prepared baking sheet.
  16. Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for about 20 minutes, until golden.
  17. Allow to cool before serving.

Notes

Consider pairing with a light side salad or warm soup. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
