A nutritious high-protein French toast that combines indulgence and health for a satisfying morning meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 large eggs
- 6 large egg whites or 1/2 cup of liquid egg whites
- 1/2 cup milk of choice (almond, cow’s, or oat)
- 1 scoop protein powder (vanilla or pea protein)
- 1 tablespoon sweetener of choice (maple syrup, honey, or stevia)
- 1/2 to 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 9 slices of high-protein bread (like sprouted grain)
- 1 to 2 tablespoons butter or olive oil spray for cooking
Instructions
- Whisk together the eggs, egg whites, milk, cinnamon, and vanilla in a large shallow dish until well combined.
- If using, incorporate the protein powder into the egg mixture and whisk until smooth.
- Heat a pan or griddle to medium heat and grease with butter or olive oil spray.
- Soak each slice of bread in the egg mixture for about 1 minute, coating both sides.
- Place soaked slices in the hot pan and cook for 4 to 5 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown.
- Repeat with remaining bread slices and serve warm with toppings like Greek yogurt or fresh berries.
Notes
For best results, use day-old bread to absorb the custard well. Customize toppings to enhance flavor.
