Description

Hearty ground beef pasta with rich tomato sauce, perfect for weeknight dinners. This one-pan meal combines seasoned ground beef with pasta in a flavorful sauce.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 12 ounces penne pasta
  • 1 medium yellow onion, diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped

Instructions

  1. 1. Cook pasta according to package directions until al dente. Reserve 1 cup pasta water before draining.
  2. 2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Brown ground beef for 6-8 minutes, breaking apart with a spoon.
  3. 3. Add onion to the pan and cook for 3-4 minutes until softened.
  4. 4. Add garlic and bell pepper, cook for 2-3 minutes until fragrant.
  5. 5. Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute until darkened.
  6. 6. Add diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and beef broth. Stir to combine.
  7. 7. Season with Italian seasoning, paprika, oregano, garlic powder, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
  8. 8. Simmer for 15-20 minutes until sauce thickens.
  9. 9. Add cooked pasta and toss to coat. Add pasta water if needed for consistency.
  10. 10. Remove from heat and stir in basil and half the Parmesan.
  11. 11. Serve garnished with remaining Parmesan and parsley.

Notes

Store leftovers in refrigerator for up to 4 days. Freeze for up to 3 months. Add fresh herbs after reheating for best flavor.
