- 1 teaspoon sugar (or honey)
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour
- 1 egg
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ pound ground beef
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Stir the yeast and sugar into 1 cup warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until puffy.
- Add the flours, salt, egg, and water-yeast mixture to a stand mixer. Mix on medium-low for 10 minutes.
- Cover the dough with a towel and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet. Add beef, salt, and spices; cook for 8-10 minutes until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
- Divide the dough into 8 sections. Flatten each section into a disc about 6 inches wide.
- Fill the center with cooked meat and cheese, fold the dough to enclose, and seal the seams.
- Place rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cover while preheating the oven.
- Preheat oven to 400°F and bake for 20-22 minutes until firm. Let cool slightly before serving.
