Description

Ingredients

  • 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (or honey)
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 egg
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ½ pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Stir the yeast and sugar into 1 cup warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes until puffy.
  2. Add the flours, salt, egg, and water-yeast mixture to a stand mixer. Mix on medium-low for 10 minutes.
  3. Cover the dough with a towel and let rise for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet. Add beef, salt, and spices; cook for 8-10 minutes until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  5. Divide the dough into 8 sections. Flatten each section into a disc about 6 inches wide.
  6. Fill the center with cooked meat and cheese, fold the dough to enclose, and seal the seams.
  7. Place rolls on a parchment-lined baking sheet and cover while preheating the oven.
  8. Preheat oven to 400°F and bake for 20-22 minutes until firm. Let cool slightly before serving.
