- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion (minced)
- 1 (8-ounce) can water chestnuts (drained and minced)
- 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon creamy peanut butter
- 2 garlic cloves (grated)
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- Green onions (thinly sliced)
- Crushed peanuts
- Butter lettuce (or Bibb lettuce or iceberg lettuce)
Instructions
- In a small bowl, whisk together the sauce ingredients until well combined and smooth.
- Heat olive oil in a medium frying pan over medium heat until shimmering.
- Add ground beef and onions, cooking until browned and onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
- Stir in the water chestnuts and the sauce, simmering on low heat until thickened and heated through, about 3-4 minutes.
- Serve beef filling on lettuce leaves topped with green onions and crushed peanuts.
Notes
Serve immediately for the best texture. Store leftover filling and lettuce separately to avoid sogginess.
